What is the Breslov movement?

A Chassidut that appeals to Jews around the world
The Breslov movement was founded by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810), who was the grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism. The Hasidim of this movement generally refer to him as « Rebbe Nachman » or simply « the Rebbe » (different from Rabbi Loubavitcher). Rebbe Nachman is buried in Uman, Ukraine. Every year, Chassidim travel to Uman to celebrate Rosh Ha-Shanah at his grave. Other pilgrimages take place on Hanukkah, Lag Ba’Omer and Shavuot.

The name of this movement comes from the town of Breslov, also in Ukraine, where Nachman spent most of the last eight years of his life. Some people also see the name as a play on words in Ashkenazi Hebrew: « Bris lev » means « covenant (or circumcision) of the heart. The approach places great emphasis on serving G-d with joy and living life as intensely as possible. « It is a great mitzvah to be happy always, » Nachman taught.

Today the symbols of this trend are known to all, even those who do not follow this trend in Judaism:

the flame of Rabbi Nahman: Aech Cheli
the Breslev yarmulke
the katan talit for children
Breslev Tefilin bags
Kiddush glass of Rabbi Nahman
So many Judaica accessories to find on our site.
