An essential Judaica accessory for performing the prayer over wine
On Friday nights, the Kiddush is recited over a glass of wine or grape juice before beginning the Shabbat meal and before saying Hamotzi, the blessing over the hallah. Traditionally, the Kiddush was recited by men. Today, in many homes, either women or men recite the Kiddush. After the recitation of the Kiddush, the cup is distributed for everyone to take a sip. Many families have a special cup, called a kiddush glass, set aside for this purpose.
