Netilat Yadayim is the name of the Jewish prayer that consists of washing one’s hands before eating bread (motsi), but also when getting up and on various occasions throughout the day. After washing, the blessing « al netilat yadayim » is recited.
Why use a keli to perform the Netilat Yadayim prayer
Jewish sages emphasize the importance of washing one’s hands every morning and reciting the blessing, « Asher kideshanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu al netilat yadayim » (« … who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us concerning the washing of the hands. « )
A person’s hands give him the ability to function in this world. With his hands he can give and receive, hold and deliver, handle his various possessions and take care of his body.
This keli will therefore be useful throughout the day: on Shabbat, Yom Tov and other Jewish ceremonies.
