Cover your holiday Hallot with this Judaica accessory
The first mention of Shabbat Challot comes from the Torah, when the Hebrews wandered in the desert and gathered manna, which fell from the sky by the action of God. On Fridays, they were commanded to bring a double portion so as not to collect the manna on Shabbat.
It is customary to cover the hallah during kiddush. Since bread is considered the most important food, normally if we have both wine and bread in front of us and plan to eat both, we recite the bracha over the bread first. But for the kiddush, the brakha on the wine must be done first. To avoid giving « incorrect » priority to the wine, we cover the hallah.
To perform this mitzvah in the best way, it is best to use a bread cover especially for Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
