How to light the hanukiah
According to Jewish tradition, the menorah is meant to spread light, which is why it is traditionally placed in front of a window, on a table or in front of your door.
The candle in the center of the menorah is the shamash. This is the one you will use to light the other candles.
Recite the blessing once the shamash is lit, but before you light any other candles.
Light the candles from right to left. Each night of the holiday, a new candle is lit until the 8th day.
Today, hanukiahs are available in a wide range of shapes, styles, sizes and materials. You will find them in silver, metal, glass, wood… All made by Israeli artists from Jerusalem, specialized in Judaica art.
