What is a reading hand
The Torah pointer, or « YAD, » is a Hebrew word for « hand » that has a very important role. The Torah reading hand guides the reader of the text, while reading directly from the Sefer Torah in public, ensuring that he or she follows the complex verse line by line, after taking the time to prepare for the reading. An important use for the Torah reading hand is to prevent us from touching the precious parchment unnecessarily. Our holy Torah, so carefully handled with its case, robes and closet, deserved to be touched only with the gentlest and most appropriate guidance.
An original gift for a bar mitzvah, for a synagogue opening, for a sefer Torah or for any other Jewish holiday.
